I could also title this post, “Confessions of Crazy Hilarious Nesting.”
The phenomenon that occurs in late pregnancy is fueling my continual desire to deep clean our house from top to bottom.. I told Cam the other night that what I really really wanted to do in that moment was scrub all of our floors and he just burst out laughing. I’m literally fighting that urge and trying to keep my feet up whenever possible so I don’t go into early labor! I think you know you’re nesting when you’re up at midnight googling the chemistry behind different combinations of baking soda or vinegar for natural cleaners and giddy when it actually works… and to clean the kitchen, again!
Laughing at myself aside, I’m happy to finally be using a totally natural cleaner and disinfectant in our house as our baby toddlers are constantly into and touching everything. And this little homemade cleaner costs next to nothing and is working wonders! This is my favorite of the two and cuts through soap residue on shower doors, beautifully cleans windows, gets rid of mold and made our kitchen counters and appliances shine.
Natural Cleaner Recipe:
2 parts water
1 part white vinegar
1 lemon, juice and peel
Shake thoroughly before using! It will take a bit of time for the lemon to fully cover up the smell of the vinegar. You can also add in orange or grapefruit peel for more of a citrus scent.
Rosewater Soft Scrub Recipe:
2 parts baking soda
1 part water
1 TBS course sea salt
2-3 tsp rose water
This smells amazing… I’ve been using it on the stovetop, appliances and kitchen sink the most. Rinse well with warm water and a clean cloth.
I would LOVE to hear any natural concoctions you use in your home!!

and by sad … I mean said. :/

Hahaha I know!!! But my question is this, how on earth do I harness this bizarre energy for post-pregnancy? Because we all know I'm not going to want to clean anymore…
Amanda Marshall says
And that made me laugh too – it is kind of sad! I should be doing more important things and here I am wanting to scrub our bathroom- ha!

Thank you for sharing this! I've been wondering what were good natural home cleaners, so I'll definitely be trying this out. Is it okay to leave the lemon peels in there after are time or do you suggest taking them out?
Amanda Marshall says
I left them in! It continues to make it smell more lemony and adds more acid which is good for disinfecting 🙂

These are great! Do you find the lemon pulp gets caught in the sprayer? I remember that being an issue when I tried to make my own lemon "hair bleaching" spray when I was a beach loving teenager.
Amanda Marshall says
Haha. No, not that I've seen yet. I've already gone through two bottles… help me. I can't stop cleaning/nesting!!

Oooh! I love stuff like this. I use the same vinegar spray in my house. Sometimes I use lemons and sometimes I use essential oils. But I have not tried the rosewater scrub yet. Excited about that one.
Amanda Marshall says
Ooh I havent tried adding essential oils yet, I'll have to do that next!

Love this! I stumbled upon your blog and had to try this immediately. We're currently living in the Middle East where rose water is easy to find. The smell is so yummy and makes me ready for spring, though there are really only 1.5 seasons here 😉

I love using natural cleaners, but the shower door on has so much soap scum and it is always hard to clean! I will try this spray and see if it does the trick : ) Thank you!
To clean mirrors, I use a peppermint glass cleaner with vinegar, rubbing alcohol, water, and peppermint essential oil!
Have you tried the natural cleaner spray on mirrors? I wonder if that would work…
