There are my babies, happily playing with their favorite toys (dirt and rocks) on the ancient Stari Grad Plain. Lavender has been cultivated on Hvar for centuries. We drove the old road from Stari Grad toward Hvar Town, passing hillsides dotted in wild lavender, grape vines, rosemary and the abandoned village of Velo Grabje. We also passed hills and hills covered in ancient stone stacked terraces that date back all the way to the 4th century BC!
We pulled over and the kids were in heaven hanging out in the dirt (ha, of course). There’s almost always a breeze on Hvar, so you can imagine how well the air was scented. That along with the views and the quiet, it was almost unreal. I think of all the things we got to do on the island, hanging out right here as a family was what I enjoyed the most!
I love this photo of Cam and the kids… if you look closely, you can see two crosses and the island Vis.
