I am so excited about how much has changed here over the past weeks! Our kitchen garden is taking shape and though we have a ton of work left, it’s become such a peaceful spot that we all love to be in.
Not too long ago, this is what it looked like… where the boys are is about dead center of where the garden is now.
This entire area was a pine tree forest and had been a dumping ground. We’ve cleaned up so, so much broken glass… I’ll have to find the original photo I took before Cam started clearing our land — this was all covered in dense brush, as tall as he is.
Now that Cam has finished the really heavy work, we’ve been raking up years worth of pine needles and he built the first row of raised beds from milled wood from all those trees he cut down! So far the kids and I have planted tomatoes, sweet pepper, larkspur, beets, spinach, mesclun salad, carrots, sunflowers, cosmos and squash.
It’s hard to see the actual depth of this area — it’s massive. We need to finish clearing out the never-ending pine needles and build the rest of the raised beds, finish the farm fencing, and keep planting (my favorite part).
We all love the chicken coop Cam built! I’ll do a separate post on it soon.
There’s Ken Gander, our guard goose!
Know what these are?! PEONIES!!!
Chocolate cookies.
Hope you’ve all been doing well!

Amanda, I am thrilled for you all! Gardening is SUCH a pleasure (even though it does involve lots of sweat, and hard work!!), and I’m so happy you’re able to plant to your heart’s desire! Our garden is comparatively tiny, but I still love planting some herbs like mint, rosemary, thyme, and lemon balm, as well as a bit of lettuce, spinach, arugula and chives for now, and will plant some cucumber and squash nearing summer. Wish I could put on my gardening gloves next to you and plant a few things whilst chatting away in the sun. x

That’d be a dream. I wish we could have met up with you while in Europe, though I have a sneaking suspicion we’ll be back! Your garden sounds lovely. I’m not so patiently waiting on all of my seeds to start springing up – this is always the part I struggle the most with, ha!
