The season of flower festivals has begun! I love love love love love flowers and how much Okinawa celebrates them. Last year at the sunflower festival, I was a few weeks pregnant. This year, I got to wander through the fields with John Shea who is totally fascinated by colors, the outdoors, people, everything. Each year there’s groups of elderly and handicapped locals that come and sit off to the side in the shade as people wander by. It was so fun to see how much joy John brought them by laughing and smiling back at them as they grabbed his feet and pinched his cheeks and told him how cute he is in Japanese. I think it was the highlight of his day, and I would guess theirs too. He is an amazing little ambassador.
