This post has been a long time coming! I’m selling my camera, which is bittersweet to part with yet so exciting to upgrade. I have loved my Nikon so much that it’s taken me almost two years to
get the ball rolling with this, and I honestly would have ended up waiting another year or two if Cam hadn’t pushed me to finally make the leap. It is a Nikon d90 and included is a 50mm
1.8 and a 18-270mm lens that I have used for travel, food photography, all of John
Shea’s photos… literally every photo that I’ve taken on my blog. Something that I have absolutely loved about Nikon is the color quality. It is beautiful and has allowed me to keep my photos very natural with minimal editing (I always shoot in natural light, and slightly up the brightness & contrast, sharpness, and rarely add saturation).

Cam and I bought it just before we were married and it’s the camera I taught myself how to shoot exclusively manual on. It has been used and loved — traveled all over the world with us! — but is well cared for and I’ve never had a single maintenance problem with it.
If you’re interested, please send me an email ๐
(All of these were taken in Okinawa, except for the third one down {New Zealand} and the second one from the bottom {Vietnam})

Yay! You're finally selling! I remember chatting about this on one of our first dates over Soba. Also, me and your camera have a love/hate relationship. The first time I used it I felt so confident and you were like.. "Kenz, not a one of these in in focus." User error for sure. And lastly, those chico chip cookies were totes my bday present! I miss you so much. So so so much.

Haha, but then you became better on my camera than I was. Some of my most favorite pregnancy and family photos are thanks to you. One of which is blown up and framed in our living room. I MISS YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!! Please come back to America. I want to go on another soba date right now, and sit on my back porch again in the rocking chairs and have another of our sleepovers and let our babies crawl all over each other and then go to coffee casa for the 10,000th time. Love you!

Your photos are just stunning. Would you ever consider doing a post with photography tips?
Amanda Marshall says
Thank you so much, Trisha!! I would… but with the caveat that I'm a housewife/mama who just taught herself with lots and lots of practice and has just about everything left to learn!

i loooove your photos so much, always! my sis has the nikon d90 i belieeeeve, and it really does take beautiful photos! i have an older nikon, still wonderful, but the coloring is naturally a bit warmer, which is funny, and there's a bit less crispness, maybe? so anyway, what did you upgrade to? i love that you do such minimal editing because your photos are always just right!!
Amanda Marshall says
Thanks, Britt!! That's a big compliment coming from YOU! Canon 5d mark iii. So that's the other reason this has taken me a few years — I had to save up, haha!!
brittany says
oh gosh, that is so incredible!!! well with the amazing photos you take it's just a wonderful investment for your whole family! ๐ ๐

what are you upgrading to? I have a d7000 and love the Nikons! Love for you to share some tips here and there when you get the chance. I'm trying to shoot in manual now…just when I feel like I'm getting the hang of it I feel like I find something else that I need to learn about! It's nice to have the kiddos to practice on ๐

I loved Nikon too, so much!, but upgrading to a canon 5d ๐ I found this blog back when I was teaching myself manual and it helped so, so much… thanks again, Nancy! http://clickitupanotch.com/2010/09/shooting-in-manual-the-basics/

Just sent you an email ๐

I know we've talked cameras already (when you graciously responded to my email inquiries) but you'll have to let us know what you think of the Canon and also when you start posting pictures of it here so we can see the difference. I'm so intrigued! I second the request for a post about photography and also about how your chose your new camera body and I assume, len(s).
Amanda Marshall says
I debated about it for those two years while I was saving! Nikon is so, so great, but it seems like most are in agreement that the 5d mark iii is the best digital camera on the market, soo I went with it! I'll let you know how I like it!

Can't wait to see how you like your new camera more! If I had lots of money I would buy your camera in a second ๐ I know someone is going to enjoy it so much! Thanks so much for the link that you left above about shooting in manual! That is something that I am working on learning right now and I can't wait to check that out more!!
Thank you!

Would you still recommend the 50mm 1.8 ? And if you don't mind sharing, which lenses did you go with for your upgrade?
