{the village our guides live in}
{yup. that’s a monkey standing upfront holding onto the handle bars.}
What a day that was.
We were picked up in the back of a crazy lifted 4×4 truck and taken to ride elephants through the jungle and a village where all the trek guides live.
{Guess what our huge elephant’s name was? COOKIE. We died laughing when our guide told us that.} We got to see a glimpse of how they live ~ in huts with hammocks for beds. And those adorable {and yet deadly} tigers and leopard? It was amazing and yet bittersweet ~ they were only a few feet from us and we could have easily paid 300 Baht to lay with them {something we so want to do! We are insane, I know.} but we just couldn’t after we saw how they were treated.. To put it simply, things are very different in the Third World, and we were reminded of just how blessed we are to be Americans. As Cam said, in America even our animals live well.

That's so sad about the animals… Breaks my heart. xoxo

Very true perspective- thank goodness for our American animals ๐
You pictures are so unbelievable- I now must add "ride an elephant" to my life list. Thanks for sharing!

I hate thinking about how animals are treated in third world countries. it makes me heart ache ๐ good for you guys for not doing it and standing up for their better treatment in your own way. the elephant ride looks like quite the adventure! ๐

I am beyond insanely jealous right now. Is it weird that sometimes I wish my boyfriend had a job where we traveled all over? I mean, no it's not weird. But I think about it ALL THE TIME.
Lyndsay says
Your photos are so gorgeous. I want to visit Thailand so badly. I feel sad for those poor animals.
Brooke says
This looks like so much fun! And the animals are gorgeous! I hate that they are not treated better…that is just awful ๐
But this looks like such an amazing little adventure ๐ BTW, love your outfit! Where did you get it??
Andrea {kerubo mama} says
Stunning photos.. goodness I love your photography style and the gorgeous location you get to shoot in! What a fun experience! Good for you for standing up for what's right. So sad to think about animals being so mistreated.

I seriously can't get enough of your pictures. They are so beautiful. I read a story like 3 weeks ago about a lady who did the whole "pet the cheetah" thing on a safari in Africa and she got attached by them. They just aren't pets. These elephants are gorgeous. What a fun experience!

Love your adventures and I agree we are very very lucky in the good ol USofA and sometimes a third world trip is needed to remind us of that.
Nicole Marie says

Thailand has always been on my list. This moves it right up to the top. How fantastic!

Beautiful pictures!
I'm so glad you refrained from paying for a photo with the cats. The only reason they can get away with stuff like that is because people keep accepting it. Good for you!
Meagan Murtagh says
oh my gosh, this looks like such an awesome adventure. was it humid?
xo the egg out west.

I love the photo of the monkey that hitched a ride! Awesome post as usual.

Brooke, I just got the corral linen pants online at VS and the tube top is pretty old – from Old Navy (:

Ugh. That is so terrible about how innocent animals are treated. Animal Cruelty is a cause close to my heart and I commend you for not paying to lay with the tigers… even though it was so tempting! I would love to do that too. Your pictures are gorgeous Amanda!
xoxo
