Thanks to my sweet, thoughtful husband, we spent the long weekend and my birthday in Charleston. It’s just a four hour drive from our home here in North Carolina. The city was bigger and a little different than what we expected, but there are some really beautiful, historic parts of it that we loved. We spent our time hanging out as a family, and in between walking around, ate our way through the city!
We tried the famous cheeseburgers from Husk, which were good, but their pimento cheese? Woah. I still have no words. We ate breakfast one morning at Poogan’s Porch — hello cheesy grits with applewood smoked bacon! Everyone was really sweet to our family and it was a nice, laid back place to be with our babies. Jeni’s Ice Cream, yes. That was Gracie’s favorite. We also tried the homemade biscuits from Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit and Black Tap Coffee. So basically, Charleston made us big fans of southern food! Also, thanks for hanging out with us, Schaefer fam!!
The best part of this past weekend was simply being together. John Shea and Gracie shared a bed, and Cam and I snuck in their room both nights to see how they were doing since Gracie still sleeps in her crib at home. They were snuggled up together and John Shea had his arm around her! We just barely kept from bursting out laughing at how adorable they were.

That’s exactly what a lot of people kept saying! I was picturing it as a small little quaint town but ha – I was wrong! Reminded us a lot of DC. Would love so much to come up and see you! Will of course let you know if we make it up that far ๐

your little one must have been jiggling like crazy on those cobblestones! my husband remarked after we left that it was amazing that I didn’t wipe out last weekend while wearing cowboy boots on them ๐ Such a neat city. Definitely looking forward to going back again. We stopped at the Angel Oak tree…so beautiful and amazing!

I had never heard of that until just reading your comment — wow, the photos of it look amazing. I have a feeling we missed most of what Charleston has to offer! We were too busy eating – ha. You already make me want to go back. I’m so glad you and your family had a wonderful time, though I wish I could have seen you there:)
